1986 yamaha venture royale1/2/2024 Pretty much same engine as V-MAX, different carbs, valves, 45+ mpg most of the time, better in Mexico, no ethynol down there. The year I was in Sturgis, I stopped by the Yamaha Factory set-up, chatted with a factory rep (white shirt and tie ) told him I rode an 84, he said "don't ever get in a hurry to get rid of that they are a fine bike), Talked to a guy passing thru town on an 83 this summer that lives in Nicaragua, Central America, his bike had 167,000+ miles, his family lives in Oregon and he does the trip twice a year, his bike looked great and he said he has never had a problem with it. I live in southern NM and ride open desert and twistie mountain roads, really like the Venture.83 and 84 mods had a "rider issue" with second gear, the young fellows and the older guys that had to do the "speed shift" and miss most of the time, screwed up (bent) internal shift slider forks, so second gear no longer fully engaged, and the pop out of secong gear became a problem, by 85 this was addresed, if you find a 83 or 84 without this problem and you are willing to ride like a human not an animal, buy it this bike will serve you well. At one time I owned a 1999 Gold Wing, at the same time that I owned the 84 and after a trip to Daytona and same year a trip to Sturgis on the wing, I decided I prefered to ride the Venture, so I sold the Wing to make room for another Venture, the 90. I have heard the words BULLIT PROOF, used and I have used it myself and I feel it fits the Yamaha Venture to a tee. same with the 84, that I owned for about 6 years, same story, oil, filter, lube, gas, ride.Oh yes a tire or two now and then, and Zero issues with that one also, sold the 84 to a friend, (still a friend), he has never done a thing to it either. I've had the 90 for about three years, with Zero issues, oil, filter, lube gas, ride. and then back down to Durango, MX, over the "Spine of the Devil" (wonderful ride), to Mazatlan and then back home once more, this ride was with two buddies, Not one hickup, absolute ZERO problems. to southern state of Chiapas, and back up thru Mexico City and the east coast to the house, SOLO. this spring I rode the 90 on a 7000+ mile adventure down the west coast of Mex. I have a 90 and before that a 84, both great rigs,I can say nothing bad about either one.
